And your stories are always terrific, Jory. Maybe spending three hours on one every now and then is a luxury you can afford?? or one and a half, for a haiku version?
I currently have 135 subscriptions AND books and journals to read - but if there is ever something in your folder, I pounce on it. So don't ever think it was (or is) indulgent. You are cherished, and justly so. Blog on.

Jory, your writing is so fresh. ("I took to blogging like lint to a cherry popsicle in summer.") I will happily read your longest posts! Keep 'em coming.

To Think Is To Create

It was so nice meeting you yesterday on the mommyblogger panel, what a great day of discussing issues that are important to so many of us right now.

I have the same pull between wanting a day of just reading a novel, and wanting to be online networking, blogging and promoting my "brand". I think that there probably is no "balance", but just a juggling act where multiple things are in the air at all times.

wow. timely piece. esp. from a new blogger who's trying to figure out just what i need and what i want and how to balance it all. do keep writing jory. i agree w/ the first comment. i read your posts as soon as i see 'em. :) i'm thinking book? compilation of your blogs thusly? you can always tell newbies like me what are must have's...i joined twitter recently. love it.....ridiculous. it reminds me when pagers were such a big deal. you couldn't wait to hear the beep. :) any/all insights on how to navigate this stuff :) and what are must have's...just say. i'm in the midst of sifting through squarespace vs. wordpress b/c i can't do wordpress.com anymore as it doesnt accept coding i wanna put out there. wish i had 2-3 years client experience. i'd interview w/ you :) happy balancing it all...know you are never alone in that effort. :) hugs, tre

You wrote everything I've been thinking (although much better than I could have said It). I spend more time reading online blurbs than reading anything in paper. I spend more time promoting my blog than writing posts. And coincidentally, I am a New Yorker, but I am reading this while I am in San Francisco helping my son move here for his first job out of college as a computer software engineer at Hi5. Even though I'll miss him so, I'm glad he'll be living here among the techies.

I, too, have the same issue of wanting to read an actual book and to be online "networking". I agree with one of the commenters that there probably is no actual balance. With my son in one hand, I like the idea of having the computer on the other and multi-tasking! hah! When I was in corporate America, I thought I was an excellent multi-tasker, but now I really am.

For those who like to "network" in a virtual way, I just joined a great boutique social network for female entrepreneurs. It's called Savor the Success (http://www.savorthesuccess.com), and I think it's perfect for the busy woman with a million things in the air because you can actually meet women who are in the same boat as you.

Hope this helps you all, and thank you for writing such a great blog. I'll be back many times.
